Burned Up这个英文单字很好理解，但Combust或Combustion相对就较为生冷。
根据英国剑桥字典，Combust/Combustion的解释为the process of burning，意指燃烧的过程，感觉上比Burned Up （燃烧起来）更为难受痛苦。
不过在占星学里，这两个单字都是指行星位于距离太阳16分到1-7.5度的位置。
自古以来，太阳就常被比喻为权威者，世运占星就常以春分盘的太阳视为当权者，以太阳的状态来预测当权者今年的运势。甚至把太阳当作第一宫，其它宫位以此类推成为衍生宫，可以说是现代占星以太阳星座预测个人运势的滥觞。
当行星非常接近太阳时，其光线会消失在太阳光芒之下，就好比行星在这段消失光芒的期间，能量活力被削减，因此被视为虚弱无力、磨难与恐惧，甚至是死亡的凶兆。
若将太阳比喻成君王，行星则是朝臣，由于君威难测，行星接见太阳时，战战竞竞，其光芒被掩盖，难以发挥力量，中国古代也非常重视如此的天象，无论在东方或西方是非常古老的判断法则。
以下为古典文献中实际的应用：

And this is that you should look to see where the Lot fell—that is, into whose house or exaltation or bound or triplicity. Which if the planet were retrograde or burned up or in a malign place, that thing will become cheaper. But if it were in a place of strength or in an angle, and especially in the Midheaven, that thing will become more burdensome and will be of a greater price. And if the lord of that house arrived at the place of its own descension, that thing will become more cheap.
我们应先观察特殊点所在的位置，即落在哪颗行星的庙、旺、界或三分性的力量上。若其主星逆行、被焦伤或位于其它不利的位置，价格偏低。若在有力量的位置或尖轴，尤其是中天，代表商品缺少价格昂贵。若其主星落在弱宫，价格会偏低。
