Face又称为Decan，系五种尊贵（Dignity）之一，Decan的名称源自拉丁文的decanus，意思是：Chief of a group of ten(十度主星)。它还有其他名称：外貌（Figures）及形象（Images），此名称源自希腊、印度，巴比伦占星家认为每个外观会与人的外型或神祇外貌有关联。外观的主星则以主管白羊座的火星开始，根据迦勒底秩序——行星距地球由远至近的顺序，将每个星座均分成三个10度的区间(Decanates)来排列。
至于外观的由来，普遍认为源于埃及。早在公元前3000年，埃及已发展出36个10度星群，也就是后来所熟知的外观。当时的外观星群主要是作为历法、时间记录之用途。有证据显示，外观在之后的用途，是作为类似宫位的主题事项的征象，后来再整合相似的主题而成为后天十二宫的前身。
行星的外观力量，基本上应用较少，五种必然的尊贵中，外观其实算不上尊贵，它经常被模拟成公司里没有特定专才的角色，虽然还算有一个位置可以安身立命，但很容易被替代，故该行星常有惶惶不安的心态。另一方面，如果星盘中有多颗行星的外观主星为同一个，也暗示着当事人看起来有该颗行星的「形象」。

The infortunes among the stars are the harshest there is for harm: Mars if the traveler travels on land, and Saturn on the sea and water; and the harshest there is for harm, is if Jupiter and Venus are not looking at them. And the harshest there is for the Moon is if she is in the bound and face of the infortunes, and an infortune is looking at the Moon from the opposition or square, and Jupiter and Venus (or one of them) are not looking at the Moon.
最能造成伤害的兇星为：陆上旅行为火星，而水上或海上旅行则为土星；若木星和金星又未注视它们，情况将更为严重。对月亮而言最严重的情况为位于兇星的界或外观，且受凶星以对分相或四分相注视，但木星和金星（或其中之一）未注视月亮之时。
